the 2019 edition of the milan design week sees emu‘s prestigious partnerships, as it renews its participation in two very popular events within the fuorisalone.
the brand will take part in dot, design outdoor taste, the event dedicated to outdoor living, set in the elegant piazza san marco in the heart of the brera design district. emu’s participation will be extraordinary, as it is celebrating the 50th anniversary of its iconic chair, rio, with the sensorial installation, hourglass, “an hourglass symbolizing the link between real-life experiences, which make us who we are, and the desire to follow new paths, to begin a new era.”
the historic, little armchair, created in 1970 and considered one of brand’s greatest global successes, stands within the structure in an ideal handover with the rior50, the celebratory re-edition designed by emanuel gargano and anton cristell, who have also created the display concept. the complete rior50 seating collection, including not only the little armchair, but also a chair, lounger, stool, rocking chair and coffee table, can also be seen among the new products at the salone.
emu presents at 2019 exhibition of salone del mobile its new outdoor collections, based on experimentation and technological research.
its furniture sets are characterized by an increasingly distinctive design, capable of meeting the needs of both residential and contract sectors, thanks to versatility, wearability and recognizable but in continuous evolution style.
emu, which always stands out because of its innovative, high quality and with strong identity products, introduces this year interesting materials, which give birth to matchless new furnishings.
emu’s new outdoor products will also be on show in hall 5, stand d10 at the trade fair, salone del mobile, at rho fiera.

after ten years of activity, brera design district presents the 10th edition of its design week, choosing an inspirational theme, born during brera design days 2018: sustainability and a green and choice-conscious design. design your life, that draws inspiration from bill burnett and dave evans’ book (designing your life: how to build a well-lived, joyful life, alfred a knopf inc, september 2016), is the title of brera design week 2019, a collective call to pay more attention to project’s impact.
if we were to adopt a design approach in our day-to-day choices, in our everyday life, we would probably be happier and less stressed. suffice it to consider an error contained in a project, as an element recognized as fundamental in the research process that helps bring to perfection. we ask designers to be more committed to the sustainable impact of their work. we ask everyone to behave as daring designers, because everyone’s thoughts and contributions are now essential.
thinking about the theme, design your life is conceptually linked to our 10th anniversary, identifying ten vertical sub-themes, ten ways in which the main theme can be interpreted by professionals, designers and researchers who tangibly contribute to building a sustainable world with their work. thanks to the experience gained with brera design days, we focused on a varied range of professionals among them who provide a perspective and a design approach capable of representing different aspects of sustainability.
the 10 ambassadors of brera design week 2019 are: marco mari and carlotta borruto from italia innovation (design your community); mauro martino from ibm research ai, northeastern university (design your creativity); oliver marlow from studiotilt (design your emotion); mario cucinella from mca and sos school of sustainability (design your future); daniel and markus freitag from freitag (design your ideas); thayse viégas from casa canvas (design your imaginations); aldo cibic (design your memories); stefano maffei from politecnico di milano (design your transformation); ben sheppard from mc kinsey design index (design your value).
porta venezia in design, the fuorisalone circuit that combines design and art with the architectural and decorative heritage of the liberty style – of which this area of the city is particularly rich – to make it better known to citizens and foreign guests who visit milan during the design week.
an itinerary divided into ‘three’: showrooms, stores and companies featuring new design and art, the food&wine itinerary, which finds space in some selected bars and restaurants, guided tours of the liberty facades, organized in collaboration with fai – fondo ambiente italiano.
the idea of this circuit is to highlight places, sometimes ‘hidden’ in courtyards, other facing the road: design and furnishing companies, hospitality and leisure with good food and wine, architectural companies and workshops. the cultural corner, linked to the liberty heritage, has always been our focus, by organising free tours, thanks to the collaboration with fai-fondo ambiente italiano.
isola design district is a territorial marketing project created by blank, a young milan-based creative agency, with the aim to give visibility to emerging international designers and local artisans, within one of the most lively neighborhoods of milan: isola.
the event is organized every year during milan design week, in collaboration with 24pr&events and emilio lonardo, and involves the entire area with design exhibitions, installations, workshops and talks, that take place within hidden locations, galleries and private courtyards.
if you want to discover young designers and new design brands, this is the right place to be, just next to contemporary architectural excellences as the vertical forest and gae aulenti square!
next to contemporary architectural excellences such as piazza gae aulenti, bosco verticale, unicredit tower, there is a heritage of hidden places, an incredible landscape of possibilities. within this context, a new system made of typical courtyards, shop windows, indoor and open spaces has been created to showcase projects of international emerging designers and local artisans.
locations are open to experimentation and contamination of different types of knowledge and disciplines, to go beyond the product and its function, continuing the research path that has characterized the event in previous editions.
for the 2019 fuorisalone edition a new district model is born: without a specific territory, but widespread in different areas of the city and oriented to the redevelopment of forgotten spaces, never opened for the public, in milan design week history. the dos—project, design open’ spaces, created by the re.rurban and emilio lonardo studios in collaboration with the municipality of milan – social spaces development area and with the sponsorship of polytechnic of milan – design school, shows seven spaces located in six different areas “restored” and brought back to the city with a new look and new features, including renovation, design exhibitions and installations, a full calendar of day and evening events, ranging from live music to dj sets, tasting tours and cultural meetings.
the dos project, an organization from the synergistic collaboration between institutions and private actors, will take place in brera, porta genova, bovisa, tortona, isola, sarpi and porta nuova. the headquarters of the widespread district will be the dazio art cafè, one of the ancient buildings of the darsena, elected as an example of virtuous relationship between public administration and private. during the design week it will host many initiatives: a collective exhibition of emerging young designers, a co-working and media area, a bookstore, live shooting, outdoor spaces dedicated to food and a program of night events with the best party crews in town.
