on occasion of salone del mobile 2019, marni stops off on the moon to explore infinite worlds.
marni pays tribute to this universe by presenting marni moon walk: a dimension in which primitive allure blends seamlessly with imagination of the future.
the set-up envisions a sensory journey of discovery for visitors to the creative universe of marni. a path populated by furnishing accessories and designer objects, where the unpredictability of the brand’s visual language is palpable in every single detail.
with this project, marni presents a series of original products created using unexplored materials. each product is the result of the work of a community of colombian artisans which have been working with marni for many years. visitors at the marni venue in viale umbria 42 will have the chance to discover a collection of products that creatively adapt to any space, like the fun series of round formica clad wooden and metal coffee tables which evoke the shape of spaceships.
the path also features designer objects which can be exhibited as furnishings, such as tribal aliens, spaceship-shaped sculptures, sculptural coffee tables and stools in the shape of animals, made from metal sheet and hand painted.
together with these products, the space hosts a series of primitive benches and stools in wood and leather that evoke tribal totems. the area is also populated by cushions, colourful wool and natural fibre rugs, along with a special collection of glasses and blown glass bottles celebrating color.
this edition also sees the presentation of colour pvc and metal accessories, but in the form of new creations, like petite sofas, rocking chairs and an extensive selection of chaise longues which invite us to dream. seating cushions feature original patterns and sculptural lamps evoke spaceships.
this year the marni salone del mobile project supports an initiative of otb foundation: part of the profits from product sales will be donated to the “future brain” project (www.progettoheal.com) promoted by associazione heal, a socially useful npo, to support child patients at the neuro-oncological ward of the children’s hospital ospedale pediatrico bambino gesù in rome.

design and vitra are practically synonymous. the family-owned swiss company is trusted with manufacturing the works of some of the world’s most respected and renowned designers. think eames, vernor panton, and jean prouvé —these are just some of the iconic names that have entrusted them to manufacture their pieces.
this year, vitra design museum is leading the charge in moving the conversation around design forward through a conference called the politics of design. the day-long affair will address design as a political activity with the idea that designers are constantly making decisions regarding social issues such as inclusion, identity, and sustainability. the aim of the conference is to explore the big question that surrounds this line of thinking: “while design is a powerful took for social and political change does it really have an effect on things?”
taking place on april 10 from 1:45 to 6:30, the day will be broken into three parts with top players in the fields of design, philosophy, sociology, and politics speaking on panels. confirmed speakers include paola antonelli, bruce sterling, danah abdulla, jan boelen, claudia chwalisz, indy johar, amelie klein, and etienne turpin.
the politics of design is presented by the vitra design museum and will take place april 10 at trienalle milano, teatro dell’arte.
wonderglass is presenting an exhibition titled shape of gravity of the work of japanese design firm, nendo. founded by oki sato, nendo’s work spans a wide range of disciplines from graphic design to furniture design, to installations and interiors. the exhibition also includes melt, a collection of cast glass furniture, tabletop objects, and a gravity formed glass chandelier created in collaboration with wonderglass.
melt was derived through the complex process of laying hot glass sheets over steel shapes or hanging between steel bars, which then melt downward with the pull of gravity creating a natural form. these forms were then turned into the pieces which make up the collection.
the biggest challenge in this process was timing. the craftspeople had to come to a precise understanding of the exact moment where the gravitational pull would result in the desired shape, and also the exact temperature that would allow the shape to set.

be@rbrick shadow by medicom toy is a block figure in the form of a bear, approximately 7 cm in size, and was introduced in 2001 on the 100th anniversary of the birth of teddy bear, under the concept to create a “digital teddy bear”.
it is characterized by the rule that no three-dimensional addition is to be made to the nine existing basic parts that compose the figure (head, arms, wrists, body, waist and legs) and that the only alteration is to be made solely by the expression through print.
be@rbrick has collaborated with various brands and artists as well as anime and movies.

during fuorisalone, a highly evocative environmental installation and site-specific environmental project in which the architecture of the buildings in front of the former manufacturing area will be the protagonists, while inside them sculptural groupings will subvert visitors’ perceptions.
through a series of sculptural interventions that transform spazio quattrocento, the british artist gives rise to a multi-dimensional installation that opens spaces, perspectives and possibilities.
iqos, the smoke free product, latest discovery of the technology of philip morris international, presented on the occasion of the milan design week, the new edition of the iqos world project presented by alex chinneck. this site-specific project will involve the front buildings, at opificio 31’s entrance. a distinctive feature of the project is the zip, a visual escamotage through which the artist gives rise to a series of surreal opening from which an impalpable light comes out that will involve the audience in an immersive experience. the surfaces of the space are thus designed by the artist as metaphors of an ideal process of transformation: “opening” the physical ability to create a new narrative imagination in his audience.
award-winning interdisciplinary design agency rapt studio presents tell me more, their debut installation at salone del mobile featuring rich brilliant willing as their exclusive lighting partner. their immersive, interactive exhibit displays a grand installation of vitis, centro pendants, and crisp sconces along the walls.
tell me more aims to explore the intersection of spatial experience and emotional connection, offering visitors the opportunity to experience a microcosm of a rapt-designed environment. inspired by the feeling of entering a beloved space, the two-part installation consists of an arrival chamber and expansive lounge, which serve as a backdrop to explore human connection.
as guests first enter the space, they are greeted by small circular, drapery-clad “stages” –personal theaters. each stage presents guests with a question posed by the stranger who came before them. upon reflecting, visitors are asked to leave a query for the next guest and transition beyond the mirrored walls into the lounge.
in the lounge, guests gather underneath a living collage created by a shower of lights that hang from the vault ceiling. among the lights hang threads, from which the questions posed in the personal theaters reappear to encourage guests to consider their answers, strike up conversations, and make personal connections with those around them.
