inbovisa is a cultural project of aggregation and communication, born from associazione zona bovisa, for all the events and the actors of the bovisa district in milan. the goal is to enhance and implement this neighbourhood producer of innovation and creativity.
la bovisa, was historically an industrial district with a laboring soul. in the last years this neighborhood started an urban renewal process based on scientific research, training, culture development, design and innovation. during the milan design week, bovisa turn into a hub of event related to design and entrepreneurship: various creative and cultural start-ups will identify this area as a reference point and as a district where innovation come alive.
also this year some initiatives of this project will be developed during the milano design week 2019: from the 9th to 14th of april, in/bovisa aims to be the hub and the collector of all the different events and characters which wish to participate in a cultural project during the fuorisalone.

porta venezia in design, the fuorisalone circuit that combines design and art with the architectural and decorative heritage of the liberty style – of which this area of the city is particularly rich – to make it better known to citizens and foreign guests who visit milan during the design week.
an itinerary divided into ‘three’: showrooms, stores and companies featuring new design and art, the food&wine itinerary, which finds space in some selected bars and restaurants, guided tours of the liberty facades, organized in collaboration with fai – fondo ambiente italiano.
the idea of this circuit is to highlight places, sometimes ‘hidden’ in courtyards, other facing the road: design and furnishing companies, hospitality and leisure with good food and wine, architectural companies and workshops. the cultural corner, linked to the liberty heritage, has always been our focus, by organising free tours, thanks to the collaboration with fai-fondo ambiente italiano.
isola design district is a territorial marketing project created by blank, a young milan-based creative agency, with the aim to give visibility to emerging international designers and local artisans, within one of the most lively neighborhoods of milan: isola.
the event is organized every year during milan design week, in collaboration with 24pr&events and emilio lonardo, and involves the entire area with design exhibitions, installations, workshops and talks, that take place within hidden locations, galleries and private courtyards.
if you want to discover young designers and new design brands, this is the right place to be, just next to contemporary architectural excellences as the vertical forest and gae aulenti square!
next to contemporary architectural excellences such as piazza gae aulenti, bosco verticale, unicredit tower, there is a heritage of hidden places, an incredible landscape of possibilities. within this context, a new system made of typical courtyards, shop windows, indoor and open spaces has been created to showcase projects of international emerging designers and local artisans.
locations are open to experimentation and contamination of different types of knowledge and disciplines, to go beyond the product and its function, continuing the research path that has characterized the event in previous editions.

thanks to the uniqueness of the curatorial program and the continually expanding success of previous editions, 5vie art+design is now recognized internationally as an important new hub of cutting-edge design. with a special focus on one-of-a-kind pieces, art design, and the cross- contamination among the various arts, the 2019 edition aims to build on this growing success and embrace experimentation more openly than ever and to cultivate an even more international presence.
this year’s goal: consolidate our reputation as a cultural reference point, bringing together plurality of thought and international heterogeneity.
working as always in close contact with curators and designers and concentrating on clusters of creativity, 5vie is increasingly establishing itself as a meeting place for generating connections between different areas, investing in research, in the selection of projects, and in their final implementation. as such, our identity as a true “integrated design district” becomes crystal clear.
as always, 5vie uses respected curators to trace the editorial line and confirms its collaboration with annalisa rosso, maria cristina didero and nicolas bellavance-lecompte, entrusting them with site-specific installations to reaffirm 5vie’s attention to the territory. as if to say…: “never change a winning team”.
in the mystical setting of the oratorio della passione, didero works with carlo massoud to create her first solo show, a social and political exhibition filtered through a child-like vision. roberto sironi decides to tackle the hot-button topic of big data in a sophisticated exhibition curated by annalisa rosso installed in the intriguing setting of the roman cellars of siam in via santa marta. nicolas bellavance’s curates the work of anton alvarez, who experiments with new casting techniques for bronze with surprising results in a solo exhibition entitled l’ultima cera. the exhibition will be held at the church of san bernardino alle monache, which will open to the public only on this occasion.
born out of a trip to eindhoven, the collaboration with kiki van eijk and joost van bleiswijk takes the form of a site-specific installation in the by now familiar apartment on via cesare correnti 14, headquarters of 5vie with the participation of niels hoebers, sander wassink, and michele castagnaro. the objects, designed expressly for the occasion, represent autonomous forms whose function is only barely suggested, transporting the viewer into their creative process. “in my capacity as general consul of the netherlands, i appreciate the high standards of the international curatorial selection, and i consider the growing presence of dutch designers in the 5vie district to be a very positive development”, comments johan verboom. “since 2016, the embassy and consulate have collaborated with the district, and this year we decided to support this project with the shared aim of promoting talent and design”.
like every year, 5vie dedicates design week to a great master. the guest of honor for this edition will be ugo la pietra, an artist who established his reputation back in the late ‘50s and whose production has since explored an incredible variety of creative techniques. his exhibition is entitled design territoriale, genius loci.
new wireline lamp for flos will be presented in milano in two different locations.
first as a preview in the collectors’ lounge of miart (5- 7 april), then at the salone del mobile (9-14 april) in the pavilion 24 at new design holding booth .
further elaborating on some of the design principles of the previous lamp wirering, formafantasma is again using the power cable as one of the main design features. flattened to resemble a belt made of rubber and hanging from the ceiling, the cable holds a ribbed glass extrusion containing a led light source.
the lamp, that can be installed as a single piece, or repeated to obtain elaborate visual compositions, is in fact reduced in size once packed.
wireline will available in 2 colors: grey and light pink.

wonderglass is presenting an exhibition titled shape of gravity of the work of japanese design firm, nendo. founded by oki sato, nendo’s work spans a wide range of disciplines from graphic design to furniture design, to installations and interiors. the exhibition also includes melt, a collection of cast glass furniture, tabletop objects, and a gravity formed glass chandelier created in collaboration with wonderglass.
melt was derived through the complex process of laying hot glass sheets over steel shapes or hanging between steel bars, which then melt downward with the pull of gravity creating a natural form. these forms were then turned into the pieces which make up the collection.
the biggest challenge in this process was timing. the craftspeople had to come to a precise understanding of the exact moment where the gravitational pull would result in the desired shape, and also the exact temperature that would allow the shape to set.
the gogan sofa takes its name from nature and in particular from japanese stones rendered smooth by time and water, which provided the inspiration for this project bearing the signature of patricia urquiola. this is the name given to the japanese stones placed to protect and embellish the banks of rivers and lakes. the sofa’s form in fact reminds us of flat stones sculpted by wind and water, solid yet smooth enough that you can lie on them.
just like in rock sculptures, where stones maintain their balance by being carefully positioned and interlocked, it is the shape that maintains the balance between the elements on the gogan sofa, which is not overly regular. by playing around with gravity and balance, we can make normally heavy shapes lightweight.
its sleek shapes are emphasised by the choice of coverings, which enhance and reinforce the aesthetic, in line with the philosophy of moroso that fabric is never simply just upholstery, but it is an important part of the project. the 70’s inspired fabric, recently rediscovered in the moroso textile archive, gives the gogan sofa’s concept an added value, by reproducing the surface of a river stone through its rich, deep, direction-free bouclé texture, which conceals the sofa’s seams giving to the smooth and organic surfaces an even appearance.
the gogan collection is completed with an armchair and small table in various sizes, which recall organic shapes and are characterized as the sofa for the abutments of the structure. these elements will be presented as prototypes.
