for most swedes, the idea of hemma (home) is closely linked to a strong connection with nature. while this relationship is often romantic, nature can also be something threatening. what happens when it takes over? swedish design moves returns to milan design week this year with hemma gone wild– a sequel to the 2018 exhibition, hemma – stories of home.
a new installation exploring the home as place where wild nature takes over, curated by joyn studio.
join for fika time – swedish-style coffee break – offered daily from 10-11:30 am.
louis poulsen, world-renowned danish lighting brand, reveal their collaboration with danish-icelandic artist, olafur eliasson, on a new, large-scale pendant light at milan design week. inspired by the relation between mathematical forms, the oe quasi light uses geometry to shape light and reinforces louis poulsen and eliasson’s shared idea that good light = good life.
bright led lights are embedded at the vertices of the aluminum icosahedron, directing the light towards the lamp’s core: a white, inset pentagonal laminae made from polycarbonate. the light’s complex geometric shape is perceived differently depending on where the observer stands, creating endless interpretations and perspectives.
“i’m very excited to bring my longtime interest in geometry and light into this collaboration with louis poulsen to create the oe quasi light. what distinguishes it from so many lamps is that it shines in towards the core, from which the light is reflected back out onto the surroundings. in one form, the lamp combines precision in design with quality atmospheric lighting,” states olafur eliasson, artist.

the international event in the design world dedicated to the under-35s.
salonesatellite was the first event to focus on young designers, instantly becoming the unrivaled place for interface with manufacturers, talent scouts and the most promising young designers, and since 1998 runs again concurrently with the salone del mobile.milano.
its creation was essentially a declaration of faith in the creative potential of designers under 35. many of the prototypes presented in the previous editions have gone into production, and many of the 10,000 designers who have taken part over the years, along with 270 international design schools, are now big names on the design scene. indeed, salonesatellite’s challenge has always been to imagine the shape of design to come and to try and imagine how future generations will forge a new, perfect balance between project, function and beauty.
started in 2010, the salonesatellite award is a further opportunity to facilitate contact between young designers and businesses.

the 2019 edition of the milan design week sees emu‘s prestigious partnerships, as it renews its participation in two very popular events within the fuorisalone.
the brand will take part in dot, design outdoor taste, the event dedicated to outdoor living, set in the elegant piazza san marco in the heart of the brera design district. emu’s participation will be extraordinary, as it is celebrating the 50th anniversary of its iconic chair, rio, with the sensorial installation, hourglass, “an hourglass symbolizing the link between real-life experiences, which make us who we are, and the desire to follow new paths, to begin a new era.”
the historic, little armchair, created in 1970 and considered one of brand’s greatest global successes, stands within the structure in an ideal handover with the rior50, the celebratory re-edition designed by emanuel gargano and anton cristell, who have also created the display concept. the complete rior50 seating collection, including not only the little armchair, but also a chair, lounger, stool, rocking chair and coffee table, can also be seen among the new products at the salone.
emu presents at 2019 exhibition of salone del mobile its new outdoor collections, based on experimentation and technological research.
its furniture sets are characterized by an increasingly distinctive design, capable of meeting the needs of both residential and contract sectors, thanks to versatility, wearability and recognizable but in continuous evolution style.
emu, which always stands out because of its innovative, high quality and with strong identity products, introduces this year interesting materials, which give birth to matchless new furnishings.
emu’s new outdoor products will also be on show in hall 5, stand d10 at the trade fair, salone del mobile, at rho fiera.
