como-based atelier draga & aurel returns to salone del mobile this april with transparency matters, an immersive installation featuring the duo’s latest collection of art, furniture and lightings.
draga obradovic notes: “the title of the exhibition has a double meaning. transparency matters: for us, it is the most important attitude. it refers to the transparent materials used in the collection — cast resin, glass and plexy — as well as our evolutions as designers. from transparency, we think of transformation, transition, transgression, transnational: all words that describe us and our more than ten years of working together.”
the exhibition will take place in the heart of milan’s brera design district from tuesday 9 to sunday 14 april.

“there is nothing dustier than a conventional lighting and furniture showroom. but with the manzoni, people are able to experience our new collections in an active context.
tom dixon returns to milan after a year’s absence and rethinking how we can embed ourselves into the heart of italy’s commercial and cultural capital.
aptly named the manzoni, the new 100-cover restaurant has been created by tom’s design research studio. pre-opening at the beginning of april to coincide with milan design week, it will re-open after salone as a permanent restaurant and a showroom.
“we wanted to look at different ways of being present in milan. after years of doing 5-day exhibitions in milan, we finally decided that we had enough of putting such huge energy into pop-up interventions. with the city being so active and engaging right now, it is the right time to forget being temporary and build something permanent. just like in london, we don’t think it’s enough to just have a showroom. we need a place where people slow down and experience our products in a live setting.”

the 2019 edition of the milan design week sees emu‘s prestigious partnerships, as it renews its participation in two very popular events within the fuorisalone.
the brand will take part in dot, design outdoor taste, the event dedicated to outdoor living, set in the elegant piazza san marco in the heart of the brera design district. emu’s participation will be extraordinary, as it is celebrating the 50th anniversary of its iconic chair, rio, with the sensorial installation, hourglass, “an hourglass symbolizing the link between real-life experiences, which make us who we are, and the desire to follow new paths, to begin a new era.”
the historic, little armchair, created in 1970 and considered one of brand’s greatest global successes, stands within the structure in an ideal handover with the rior50, the celebratory re-edition designed by emanuel gargano and anton cristell, who have also created the display concept. the complete rior50 seating collection, including not only the little armchair, but also a chair, lounger, stool, rocking chair and coffee table, can also be seen among the new products at the salone.
emu presents at 2019 exhibition of salone del mobile its new outdoor collections, based on experimentation and technological research.
its furniture sets are characterized by an increasingly distinctive design, capable of meeting the needs of both residential and contract sectors, thanks to versatility, wearability and recognizable but in continuous evolution style.
emu, which always stands out because of its innovative, high quality and with strong identity products, introduces this year interesting materials, which give birth to matchless new furnishings.
emu’s new outdoor products will also be on show in hall 5, stand d10 at the trade fair, salone del mobile, at rho fiera.
this year paola navone decided to complete the family of ajour furniture for gervasoni. the new design chair next will be featured at milan furniture fair isaloni 2019, it suits perfectly with the carve07 collection presented by gervasoni last year in milan, at the isaloni 2018 fair.
cast polished aluminium chair, base in grey lacquered oak. the seat characterized by macro holes is tied to the frame only by thin supports and seems to flow in the air. the polished surface reflects light and the colors around taking on different unexpected looks
the mirror polished surface of the chair reflects the light and colors around, so the chair, like a chameleon, always takes different images.
on occasion of salone del mobile 2019, marni stops off on the moon to explore infinite worlds.
marni pays tribute to this universe by presenting marni moon walk: a dimension in which primitive allure blends seamlessly with imagination of the future.
the set-up envisions a sensory journey of discovery for visitors to the creative universe of marni. a path populated by furnishing accessories and designer objects, where the unpredictability of the brand’s visual language is palpable in every single detail.
with this project, marni presents a series of original products created using unexplored materials. each product is the result of the work of a community of colombian artisans which have been working with marni for many years. visitors at the marni venue in viale umbria 42 will have the chance to discover a collection of products that creatively adapt to any space, like the fun series of round formica clad wooden and metal coffee tables which evoke the shape of spaceships.
the path also features designer objects which can be exhibited as furnishings, such as tribal aliens, spaceship-shaped sculptures, sculptural coffee tables and stools in the shape of animals, made from metal sheet and hand painted.
together with these products, the space hosts a series of primitive benches and stools in wood and leather that evoke tribal totems. the area is also populated by cushions, colourful wool and natural fibre rugs, along with a special collection of glasses and blown glass bottles celebrating color.
this edition also sees the presentation of colour pvc and metal accessories, but in the form of new creations, like petite sofas, rocking chairs and an extensive selection of chaise longues which invite us to dream. seating cushions feature original patterns and sculptural lamps evoke spaceships.
this year the marni salone del mobile project supports an initiative of otb foundation: part of the profits from product sales will be donated to the “future brain” project (www.progettoheal.com) promoted by associazione heal, a socially useful npo, to support child patients at the neuro-oncological ward of the children’s hospital ospedale pediatrico bambino gesù in rome.

barovier&toso presence is twofold, as has been the case for some time now presenting both at euroluce as well as flourisalone.
one of the new creations to be presented at euroluce 2019 is adonis, a collection of chandeliers created by marcel wanders. the dutch studio, which has been working with barovier&toso for years, has focused on an exceptional mixture of elements: on the one hand, the classic motifs of the venetian glassmaking tradition, and on the other the introduction of original forms derived from the philosophy and stylistic language of marcel wanders.
featuring two models, the adonis collection suggests the dutch flower par excellence: the tulip. the closed, enveloping and secretive form of its petals has inspired an eclectic, fascinating design that gives rise to a luminous spindle in the space.
our booth d19, hall 9 at euroluce (fiera milano rho) is a project by alessandro piva who was inspired by the colors theme of the brand new palazzo barovier&toso in murano: several single color rooms, showing a single collection each.

what has driven marta sala to now start her own line of furniture and objects, distinguished by the charming acronym msé? what kind of reasoning inspires an entrepreneur who – although still young as an exponent of a second family generation – has already gained many years of experience dealing with designers and manufacturing? is there more calculation or risk, boldness or recklessness, behind such a decision, at a time like this?
probably nothing of the sort. one would say rather, seeing the tangible results of this new project, that naturally arise from the dna of an artistic family (her mother is maria teresa tosi, founder of azucena with her uncle luigi caccia dominioni and ignazio gardella, two giants of critical modernism in architecture), the desire to tackle that 10% inspiration, 90% transpiration.
