In Milan, designers worldwide were invited to pitch new products to design experts that included Bradford Shellhammer, Founder and Chief Design Officer for Fab; Yves Behar, Fuesproject; Rob Forbes, Design Within Reach and PUBLIC Bikes; and Amanda Dameron, Editor-in-Chief Dwell Magazine, among others. 150+ designers from 30+ countries pitched their ideas and products for Fab to put into production and sell to their 12 million members. Fab initially planned on selecting three winners but 12 winning product designs were selected. Among the shortlisted products are a selection of vases, tabletop items, throws, clothing racks, and more.
Following Milan’s design call, Fab announces [ Disrupting Design ] in New York City, 21 May 2013. Designers worldwide are invited to bring their product ideas, portfolios and prototypes to the auditorium at Jacob K Javits Convention Center from 1>3p Tuesday 21 May. This experimental model bypasses the traditional retail manufacturing model by allowing Fab to directly engage with a designer one-to-one and access to Fab’s audience.
