Lamborghini showed off a future plug-in hybrid concept car, the Asterion LPI 910-4 in Paris in September. With 910 horsepower, this is no wimpy green mobile—more gesture than environment changer. The exterior offers an experiment in how Lambo might evolve beyond its contsricting, over macho design language of rough facets.

Jeep showed off the final design of its Renegade model small SUV. Mark Allen, head of Jeep design. said the vehicle was designed in Detroit and rides the same underpinnings as the Fiat 500L, the long Fiat. It will be built in Italy.
All admitted that the face of the vehicle was “a little bit cute” but cute, he said, like a puppy dog beside the mature dog. There are lots of numerous playful details as well, such as the X-shaped taillights that echo a jerry can for holding gasoline.

Fire hydrants have provided de facto city sprinklers for kids in city neighborhoods for generation. But water pressure for fire fighting and tap pressure can suffer if too many well meaning citizens open hydrants in their neighborhoods. That’s why the Spartan hydrant was invented.
http://designapplause.com/wp-content/xG58hlz9/2014/06/patton-hydrant2.png
The Sigelock Spartan looks like the water hydrant of the future. Its practical advantage is that it cannot be opened except with a special wrench and therefore not by an individual on the street.
The Spartan has been installed in the town of Long Beach Island, near New York. The town folk seem to like it—but what do the dogs say?

For the past five years I’ve attended terrific installations created and presented by Luminaire: Miami in December during Design Miami at the Luminaire Lab and in June during Neocon at the Chicago showroom. 2014 was a very special year because the first showroom in Miami was 40 years old and Chicago 25. Luminaire founder Nasir Kassamali needed something / someone special to help celebrate the occasion. He invited long-time friend and collaborator Italian designer Piero Lissoni to lend a hand. 1:1 Piero Lissoni exhibition will be on display until 10 July 2014.
275 attended a lecture at the Chicago Museum of Contemporary art. Lissoni presents what he does best and few can claim – his range of mastery in product design, interior design and architecture. Here are a few comments I remember – ‘I was born six hours late and Alessi asks me to design a watch, insane!’; ‘Even with traditional material, you can do anything’; ‘If you design without decoration, it’s enough to be both precise and uncomfortable’; ‘It’s possible to do something only if somebody helps you’. His 60-minute presentation and self-deprecating demeanor conveys his playfulness and allows for 15 minutes of ‘what was I thinking?’ such as the lamp he was asked to design that elicited no light – very controversial with client – [ Once (in the blue) for Flos ]

At first glance I thought these were toys. Well, for some they are toys – adult gifts to keep tabs on each other. Originally designed for parents, bleepbleeps are also for seniors and special needs. Very smart and cute. Here’s what bleepbleeps say about Sammy Screamer: ‘This is Sammy Screamer, a movement sensor that connects to the bleepbleeps app. Place Sammy on an item that you want to monitor – could be a door, a bag or a stroller. Get a notification on your phone if the item moves – i.e. the door opens, the bag gets tampered with or the stroller gets moved. Use the bleepbleeps app to set Sammy’s sensitivity and choose how loud you want him to scream.’

The third ‘Solutions’ special exhibition at Ambiente 2014 continues to focus on well-thought out functionality. This exhibit was conceived by London designer Sebastian Bergne and in 2014, he and co-curators Marcel Stut (essen & trinken magazine) and Claus Tormöhlen (galeria kaufhof department store), select 23 products out of a growing number of submissions. ‘Not all of these products are beautiful in form but they’re beautiful in functionality and use of innovative technology and materials, and that makes the products something to reckon with,’ Bergne says. DesignApplause notices 2014 includes more bigger players than 2013. Though no awards are given, this collection in some ways is as important as a design competition. Three entries in ‘solutions’ were also winners in ‘design plus‘
