the iconic symbol of timberland, the oak, take new form and significant in the hands of the designer elena salmistraro. an installation that will not miss to amaze and excite!
after the debut of the last edition with the artwork “the flexible living” of matteo cibic, timberland is ready to amaze again with a new and interesting collaboration.
elena salmistraro is the creative mind behind the artwork “don’t call me… dafne” that will be exposed in piazza xxv aprile from 17th to 22th of april.
a tree, the oak, symbol of sacredness, perfection, energy and life, and, since its beginnings, also the recognized and much coveted timberland logo. this is the subject that elena reinterprets with her emotional language in an interactive installation with a “beating heart” that aims to seduce and embrace those who interact with it.
the tree, called daphne after the greek nymph – but i’ll recommend you, don’t call it like that! – represent a sort of “mother nature”, who protects and welcomes as a woman knows how, embodying the brand’s spirit and desire to produce footwear collections designed for women and their world.
in this way, timberland’s female universe breaks free from stereotyping and pigeonholing, to become a tree trunk with a sinuous feminine silhouette in the soft colours from the new collection. on its majestic slender branches hang 4 big acorn-shaped seats, ready to welcome, cosy up and protect visitors of design week, cradling them gently in a cocoon effect.
empathic immersion with this installation is an all-encompassing experience. when the tree is hugged, it comes to life revealing its heartbeat and lighting up at night thanks to the vibrations caused by the intensity of the hug. a powerful emotional experience and one to remember.
artwork reveal event:
tuesday 17th april – piazza xxv aprile – 9:00 pm

lighthenge is an installation of light and sound that makes urban energy scenic and shared. by night, the lighthenge platform becomes a welcoming satellite, which projects its rays of light into the sky.
the lighthenge project is composed of a couple of elements: a solid base and an immaterial light projection, to which a background sound is added during the day. from the base rises a small and dense forest of cones in polystyrene foam.
the immaterial component of the installation instead takes shape through an unexpected luminous radiation emitted every evening starting from the sunset from the upper end of each cone.
on the occasion of the #milandesignweek 2018, bisazza unveils a new bathroom concept by acclaimed french designer india mahdavi.
mahdavi’s unique take on personalizing the bath translates to soft, rounded shapes in three exuberant colors: pistachio, strawberry and blueberry. through playful forms and rich pastel hues, the bathroom is transformed into a joyful bubble of color and humor.
to complement the bathroom collection, bisazza and india mahdavi also launch pinstripe; a new mosaic pattern that as the name suggests reproduces the formal texture and vertical lines of pinstripe fabric.

to celebrate its 25th anniversary, surface magazine is teaming up with david rockwell to explore american design now by reinterpreting a u.s. icon. aptly called the diner, the experience will take place during salone del mobile and offer a place where strangers become a community, where causal yet intimate encounters occur, and where cultural differences are celebrated. david rockwell and the lab at rockwell group are designing four distinct environments—the roadside diner, the east coast luncheonette, the midwest diner, and the west coast diner.
to round out the diner, surface is tapping additional emerging and established american designers and firms, including the renowned design studio 2×4, which is creating the project’s visual identity.
during the day, the immersive eatery and lounge will offer a contemporary take on quintessentially american food and drink, and feature a conversation series and other programming; at night, the space will transform into a nightclub featuring performances and parties.
