idlny leaders, with coalition partners iida ny and asid ny upstate/ canada east, will gather upstate in albany to lead a half day of programming for new york state designers.
the event was organized to equip new york state interior designers with knowledge about the legislation that currently regulates their rights to practice (for example, the “sign & seal” law prohibits interior designers from submitting plans or specifications to obtain a building permit for a project), as well as future bills that could impact them. idlny president dan villella will provide insight on these legislative issues and a ceu accredited seminar about advocacy will close out the evening. attendees will leave the session armed with the tools they need to work for change. this is a free event, but please register online with the link provided.
[ idlny ] is hosting its second annual gala for the design community at the intrepid sea, air and space museum on the evening of thursday, 1 june 2017. join colleagues, friends and supporters of the interior design industry for sunset cocktails & refreshments on the historic aircraft carrier overlooking the hudson!
the gala will celebrate the efforts of idlny’s representatives and volunteers who support the design profession through advocacy and legislation. it also serves as a major fundraiser to bolster the coalition for another year of advocacy to elevate the interior design profession in new york state.
this year we are excited to celebrate our honoree, ruth lynford, for her longstanding commitment and dedication to the interior design industry.

“the road to nyscid – registration’s impact on the interior design profession,” will be a ceu-accredited program and will take place on 22 february 2017 at the ofs showroom located at 1250 broadway, suite 3501, new york, ny 10001. experienced industry leaders will help to demystify the nyscid process and assist with insight and strategy for navigating professional certification.

idlny, interior designers for legislation in new york (a joint venture between iida, asid ny metro and the decorator’s club,) is pleased to announce a new series of workshops, including one ceu-accredited seminar, for design professionals. the first session, entitled, “ncidq certification and how to get there,” will take place on 18 january 2017, at 6pm in the steelcase showroom at columbus circle. thom banks, executive director of ncidq will speak, along with the presidents of each of the participating associations, on the importance of following through and taking the important ncidq exam.
the informative, hands-on evening event will offer insight into understanding the new ncidq exam, and cover best practices for certifying designers’ work experience and successful test-taking strategies.
according to pam durante, president of idlny, “this is such a critically important issue for our industry. these sessions will target both young designers that have recently graduated from accredited programs along with some experienced professionals that never completed the full certification process and need help to take their professional standing to the next level. as a coalition of associations, we want to help make this process seamless and easy for all, as we all benefit from a greater number of accredited professionals across the state.”
