tesla model 3 delivery date pushed back to late june 2018.

everyone but those who put a $1,000 deposit on the model 3, tesla’s lower-priced seemed to be unfazed on another delivery delay.

the best, and most important indicator is the stock price: shares have maintained a market value of about $53 billion. throughout 2017 a 5,000 a week production level by the end of year was promised. in november the delivery date was pushed back end of march 2018. and now the delivery date is end of june.

not experienced or fully ramped up for mass production, the fremont, california, auto assembly plant and sparks, nevada, “gigafactory” are having problems. an aside and poorly handled detail is confusion on the roof headliner. the issue is that cars equipped with a $5,000 premium upgrade option are being delivered with a woven textile material in place of the suede-like alcantara headliner detailed in promotional images and in cars supplied to media outlets for test drives. musk’s response to complaints: “as we continue to increase production of model 3 and produce more high quality cars for customers, all model 3 vehicles are being made with the same premium textile headliner found in our flagship model S and model X vehicles, which has always been planned at this stage of production.”

for another $5,000 for what tesla calls “enhanced Autopilot,” you may add semi-autonomous capabilities that will keep the vehicle within the lane, automatically change lanes, self-park once the driver has arrived at their destination, and match speed to traffic conditions.

for buyers who choose to get every upgrade like a premium paint job, 19-inch wheels, and full self-driving capability—which is not yet available, and likely won’t be anytime soon—the price tag will be just shy of $60,000. a base model S, which starts at $69,500.

lucid air, an all-electric that evolved from a battery, now scalable for a broad range of applications including and charges quickly. in matters of taste, the air evokes luxury yacht or executive business jet stylishness: artful enough to remind us now tesla s is showing her age.

the interior design though really shines, less about aesthetics but spacial restraints have vanished. air is narrower, shorter, and lower than a model s, but with the interior space of a long wheelbase s class mercedes. this zero-emission car is designed for an era of luxurious limited space.

[ storyline ]
2007 lucid motors (formerly known as atieva) started with a battery and an idea. worth mentioning the tesla roadster (2008) was the first production automobile to use lithium-ion battery cells and the first production ev with a range greater than 200 mi (320 km) per charge.

editor’s note > we’ve been watching this car this since early 2017, considering it a best of 2017. this car seems so far along it comes as a surprise the launch date target is reset to 2019. the word on the street is financing, their current funding spread between developing a car and building a plant. they are also talking to ford. this car will help push the aforementioned ev’s to raise their bars.

[ audi ] has been a partner of design miami/ since 2006. this year, audi’s presence at design miami is all about electrification, aerodynamics and renewables. the designers per emanuelsson and bastian bischoff from the humans since 1982 studio developed the concept for this approach. their “spotlights” presentation picks up on individual virtues of the audi e-tron quattro concept and translates these into an artistic video installation. with their contribution, they now join the list of renowned architects and designers who have worked for audi in recent years, including moritz waldemeyer, konstantin grcic, reed kram and clemens weißhaar.

On 6 August 1882 this printing press produced copies of Le Chaleur Solaire (Solar Heat) by Augustin Mouchot, a newspaper that he created in the Tuileries Gardens, Paris, for the festival of L’Union Francaises de la Jeuenesse. It printed 500 copies an hour, using solar thermal technology.

Solar power and the electric car are not new. Designers and engineers, as early as 1870, were creating working prototypes from Cairo to Boston. Over 500 electric cars were registered in Boston in 1902. In Paris in 1870, a solar powered printing press printed over 500 newspapers an hour.

What stopped this innovation? At that time, new technology driven by oil and war. Large ships, planes, and tanks were developed to be powered by oil. According to author David Thorpe, “around 1900 there were three types of powered vehicles on the street, each with a third of the market: steam-powered, electric and gasoline.” In 1900, early champions of the electric car argued that it was safer (gasoline engines at the time risked explosion) cleaner, noiseless, and unlikely to cause environmental problems. Much has changed in the past 100 years, and this storyline has sustained.

The BMW Group entered a new era in automotive construction today with the start of series production of the BMW i3. The world’s first premium electric vehicle to be purpose-designed for this form of drive system is the result of an all-encompassing development approach targeted at reducing fuel consumption and emissions in urban areas. This is the first time that carbon-fibre-reinforced plastic (CFRP) has been used in automotive volume production. The body structure of the BMW i3 consists entirely of this extremely lightweight and durable material, allowing the extra weight of the batteries for the electric drive system to be cancelled out. By industrializing the manufacturing process for CFRP, the BMW Group has become the first company worldwide to make its use in vehicle production economically viable. This November the i3 will be available for sale in Germany and select European countries with US deliveries beginning 4 > 5 months later.

BMW rousted grumpy press up early on Monday in New York for the unveiling of its electric car, to sync the event with London and Beijing and make a point about globalism and megacities in the future. The megacity car has become the i3, and goes on sale in Europe in the fall. With a range of 80 to 100 miles and a price of some $42,000, the BMW i3 might be seen as a near competitor to the Chevy Volt. But its carbon fiber is made with sustainable, hydroelectric energy, according to the Governor of Washington state, who was there in person. The factory where it is built in Leipzig uses windpower. BMW boss Norbert Reithofer declared the car meant nothing less than a revolution in urban mobility. He compared the potential impact of replacing traditional cars with the electric ones with the social and business effects from replacing wired phones with mobile phones.

The car has center joining doors, for easier access, and black band that sweeps from hood to rear. The black glass like surface of this band is supposed to evoke the face of a mobile phone: tail lights and and other images appear from its depth when illuminated like images on the phone.
