designer Harry Allen says… Shed is a storage piece that poetically bridges the Cedar shake shingle with the traditional Cedar storage closet. The Cedar shake shingle is a commonly used building material in the Northeast region of the United States, often seen on the exteriors or roofs of rural homes. The impetus to bring this vernacular material into the home was both aesthetic and functional. The Cedar shingles texture, pattern and aroma are so laden with pleasant associations that it is a shame to keep them outside; at the same time Cedar is believed to possess moth-repellent qualities that make it ideal for clothing storage. Shed merges material, form, and function to create a new American icon.
Harry was a New York City judge at this year’s Core77 Design Awards
