Celebrating its seventh edition, Design Miami/ , the Global Forum for Design, will return November 30-December 4, 2011, in a custom-designed structure adjacent to sister fair Art Basel Miami Beach. This year’s expanded program will see many of the world’s most prestigious galleries showcase important 20th and 21st century design, along with new works commissioned for the fair. Many works on display directly crossover with pieces on view in major museum shows in both 2011 and 2012.
These galleries join Design Miami’s roster of prestigious galleries including: Galerie Patrick Seguin, Galerie kreo, Carpenters Workshop Gallery, Demisch Danant, Jousse Entreprise, Johnson Trading Gallery, R 20th Century, Gallery SEOMI, Cristina Grajales Gallery and Todd Merrill Twentieth Century. December’s Design On/Site Galleries’ installation-driven solo shows provide collectors with exclusive access to new material. This year’s participants include Industry Gallery presenting Tom Price, Priveekollektie Contemporary Art|Design presenting Christien Meindertsma, Established & Sons presenting BarberOsgerby, Southern Guild presenting Gregor Jenkin and Venice Projects presenting Patricia Urquiola.

[ Caroline Van Hoek ] opened in Brussels in 2007 with a focus on contemporary art jewelry. In Miami, Caroline Van Hoek will show “Quartz Mirrors” by Study O Portable, work exclusively held by the gallery, as well as jewelry from Seth Papac, Giampaolo Babetto and David Huycke.
Established in 2004 by Loic Le Gaillard and Julien Lombrail, [ Carpenters Workshop Gallery ], based in London and Paris. In Miami the gallery introduces Dutch designer Frederik Molenschot. “Citylight Chandelier” a large-scale piece is made up over 136 cast bronze lights running on 25 meters of bronze arms and is 100% handmade. Also “You Fade to Light,” a light installation by rAndom International.

Since its inception in 2001, [ Cristina Grajales Gallery ] specializing in 20th century masterpieces and cultivating future luminaries of 21st century design. Cristina Grajales promotes work by emerging designers in furniture, lighting, ceramic, and textile design. Works to be showcased at the fair include new pieces by Sebastian Errazuriz, Ross Bleckner, gregorysung, Stephen Burks, Suzanne Tick and Hechizoo.
Based in Copenhagen and Paris, [ Dansk Møbelkunst Gallery ] specializes is a leading authority in rare, original works of Danish furniture that were created from 1920 to 1970. In Miami, the gallery will showcase rare works by Poul Kjærholm, Arne Jacobsen, Axel Salto, Martin Olsen and Poul Henningsen, among others.
[ Demisch Danant ] specializes in 20th century European design – with an emphasis on the late 1950s to the 1980s. For Design Miami/ 2011, Demisch Danant will present a solo exhibition of important works by the late, seminal French designer Pierre Paulin.
Since its founding five years ago, London based [ Didier Ltd ] has specialized in jewelry by leading post-war painters and sculptors. In Miami, the gallery will show rare works by Wilfredo Lam, Louise Nevelson, Man Ray, Giancarlo Montebello, George Rickey and Bruno Martinazzi. *First time exhibitor
[ Galerie Downtown François Laffanour ] specializes in furniture by European and American masters of design from the 20th century. At Design Miami/, the gallery will show pieces by Jean Prouvé, Charlotte Perriand, Le Corbusier, Pierre Jeanneret, Jean Royère, Isamu Nogushi, Georges Jouve, Ron Arad, Choï Byung Hoon and Ettore Sottsass.
[ Galerie kreo ] collaborates extensively with leading contemporary designers on limited-edition pieces, which have become part of the permanent collections of the most important private collections and museums in the world. At Design Miami/, Galerie kreo will present new works by Ronan + Erwan Bouroullec, Martin Szekely, Wieki Somers, Pierre Charpin, and Konstantin Grcic.

Paris-based [ Galerie Maria Wettergren ] specializes in 21st century Scandinavian design including limited-edition furniture, lighting and art objects. At Design Miami/ 2011, the gallery will mount an exhibition of contemporary Danish design with work by Astrid Krogh, Mathias Bengtsson, Niels Hvass, Rasmus Fenhann, Louise Campbell and Ditte Hammerstroem. *First time exhibitor
[ Galerie Patrick Seguin ] has specialized in 20th century furniture and architecture since opening in 1989. At Design Miami/, Galerie Patrick Seguin will present 20th Century furniture and architecture by Prouvé, Perriand, Royère, Le Corbusier, and Jeanneret.
Established in 1999, Rotterdam-based [ Galerie VIVID ] was among the first galleries to showcase contemporary design within the larger context of design and art. At Design Miami/, the gallery will present “Containers II” by Studio Job in collaboration with Belgian crystal producer Val Saint Lambert.
Based in Seoul, South Korea, [ Gallery SEOMI ] showcases significant design pieces by Korean designers and frequently commissions collectible objects for their gallery shows. At Design Miami/, Gallery SEOMI will present new works by Jong Sun Bahk, Myung Sun Kang, Sang Hoon Kim, Hun Chung Lee, Sam Woong Lee and Jin Jang.

[ Hostler Burrows ], formerly Antik, specializes in design and decorative arts of Scandinavia from 1920 to 1960, with special emphasis on studio ceramics and architect-designed furniture. At Design Miami/, Hostler Burrows will unveil work from 1920-2011 including Charles de Lisle, George Nakashima, Vladimir Kagan and Finn Juhl, among others.
[ Johnson Trading Gallery ] represents ArandaLasch, Wendell Castle, Max Lamb, Kwangho Lee, George Nakashima and Tobia Scarpa. At Design Miami/, Johnson Trading Gallery will show an assemblage of20th century masters of design and compelling contemporary designers. such as Rafael de Cardenas, Ricky Clifton, Max Lamb and Kwangho Lee.
Founded more than 25 years ago, Paris based [ Jousse Entreprise ] is dedicated to furniture from 1950s to 1970s as well as contemporary work. At Design Miami/ works by Jean Prouvé, Pierre Jeanneret, Charlotte Perriand, Le Corbusier, Serge Mouille, Mathieu Matégot, Emmanuel Boos, Kristin McKirdy, Pierre Paulin, Rick Owens and Georges Jouve.
Founded in 1997, New York based [ Magen H Gallery ] specializes in French post-war design with an emphasis on sculpture, decorative arts, architecture, and ceramics. In Miami, Magen H Gallery will present the work of elusive French sculptor Alain Douillard.
Located in Hudson, New York, [ Mark McDonald Gallery ] focuses on mid-twentieth century decorative arts. In Miami, the gallery will show exquisite modern jewelry by Harry Bertoia, Alexander Calder, Margaret DePatta and Art Smith, along with a unique installation by LOT-EK and a pair of tables by renowned architect Frank Lloyd Wright. *First time exhibitor
[ Modernity ] specializes in vintage 20th century furniture, lighting, ceramics and glass. In Miami, Modernity will mount a solo exhibition of work by Hong-Kong based designer Michael Young. The 20 pieces on display will be shown for the first time outside of China. *First time exhibitor
Since 1994, [ moss ] has contributed to the evolving dialogue between industrial design and studio art at its gallery in New York. Returning to Design Miami/, the gallery presents a solo exhibition of computer-generated production work by Dr. Haresh Lalvani – architect, sculptor, inventor, morphologist and Professor of Architecture at Pratt Institute.
Located in Hudson, New York, [ Ornamentum Gallery ] presents a dynamic collection of contemporary jewelry and related objects. At Design Miami/, Ornamentum will show works by Atelier Ted Noten and David Clarke, as well as a curated selection of important jewelry pieces.
[ Pierre Marie Giraud ], recently moved to the Louise area of Brussels, specializes in contemporary decorative arts with an emphasis artists working with glass, ceramics and silver. At Design Miami/ 2011, the gallery will show Magdalene Odundo, Ritsue Mishima, Martine Bedin, Rose Cabat, Marie Noëlle Cardijn, Alev Ebüzziya Siesbye, Fukumoto Fuku and Jean Girel. *First time exhibitor
Founded by Zesty Meyers and Evan Snyderman, the [ R 20th Century Gallery ] is internationally recognized for its curatorial acumen and deep knowledge of mid-20th century and contemporary design. For Design Miami/ 2011, the gallery will present Jeff Zimmerman, David Wiseman, Joaquim Tenreiro and Wendell Castle.
[ Todd Merrill ] Antiques & Twentieth Century, located in New York City, is known for a mix of the best of the post-war period in American studio and custom furniture, as well as European furniture and lighting. For Design Miami/ 2011, the gallery will present Jeanne Quinn, Katsuyo Aoki, Harry Bertoia, Paul Evans and Yard Sale Project.
[ Design On/Site Program ]
The showcase for small-scale yet high level exhibitions of new work by individual designers or studios, will give a strong presence to designers not represented in the general gallery program. The galleries:
London-based [ Established & Sons ] will present an exhibition of work by the design duo BarberOsgerby.
[ Industry Gallery ], focusing exclusively on 21st century design with galleries in Washington and Los Angeles, presents new and innovative works with the use of modern industrial materials. At Design Miami/, the gallery will feature Tom Price and the Meltdown series constructed from manipulation of polypropolene tubing.
[ Priveekollektie Contemporary Art | Design ] represents both recognized and emerging artists and designers. Based in Heusden, The Netherlands, the gallery was founded in 2006 by Irving and Miriam van Dijk.
[ Southern Guild ] was established in 2008 to provide a platform for collectible, limited-edition South African design. The first African gallery to show at Design Miami/, Southern Guild will mount an exhibition of work by contemporary South African designer Gregor Jenkin. *First time exhibitor
[ Venice Projects] offers internationally renowned designers the opportunity to express their creativity through a new medium: glass. In Miami, the gallery will present a solo show on Patricia Urquiola and her ALL AMBIQ series constructed from Murano glass.

The Miami Design District presents in collaboration with the Buckminster Fuller Foundation, utopian architect Fuller’s 1970s Fly’s Eye Dome alongside Lord Norman Foster’s reconstructed Dymaxion car.
