Michael Graves was at NeoCon 12 to sign limited edition posters and introduce his Voyages Collection. “CF Stinson has given me the opportunity to provide a fresh and new approach to patterns on surface materials for seating. By blending literal and abstract concepts, I want to encourage the impression of familiarity and also allow them to be seen in a slightly different way.” Mr. Grave’s interview and more examples of his work will soon be appearing in DesignApplause.

NeoCon 2012, Chicago’s contract and design tradeshow, brings an influx of creativity and design to the Merchandise Mart starting this weekend. For example, the first major art installation of its kind ( did not know that ) is a temporary, site-specific sculpture titled “Escalator Canopy” that will hang above the 1st to 2nd floor escalator. The 30-foot 1,380-pound sculpture is surfaced in a selection of over 500 yards of Wolf-Gordon upholstery textiles, wallcoverings, and mirrors.
Marybeth Shaw, Chief Creative Officer for Wolf-Gordon, worked with Hjalti Karlsson and Jan Wilker of New York design studio karlssonwilker, along with The Guild of Brooklyn, to design and fabricate the installation. neocon: 11 > 13 june 2012
The theme for Neocon, the U.S. contract furniture industry trade show, is “Think Big.” The 2012 theme also means think global: 80 manufacturers representing 20 countries this year. The programming is also international. A pre-registration period ends 4 June. [ neocon ] [ exhibitors a > z ]
