Shoe giant [ adidas ] is about to release three new shoes in what it is referring to as its “natural running collection.” The shoes (back to front) are the Adapt (4mm heel-toe-drop), Gazelle (7mm), and Motion (11mm), and the three shoes allow for a step-down approach to running in less shoe. Should your goal be to eventually run in a zero-drop shoe? Running experts say that a minimal heel-toe drop of about 3-5mm (or less) clearly reduces the torque and impact forces on the body while also enhancing a runner’s stability. It’s important to know that a runner needs to work on strength and form drills to get into a shoe with a lower drop, otherwise risk prolonged soreness or injury. Bottom line is that it’s different for every runner.
