Ark of the Archtypes: The Politics of Projection
24 october > 17 november | 30 west monroe chicago

#probama
About a month ago Chicago designer Rick Valicenti mentions he will be having an installation in early November but neither of us discuss the content of the installation. As it turns out his installation takes DesignApplause back four years ago when we started a series of posts about how the national creative community effectively presented president-elect Obama an on-the-fly branding program. Rick’s installation reignites the power of word and picture, portrait in this case, and begins the inevitable drumroll leading to next week’s election. If you can make it to the Monday 5 November opening reception for the installation titled Ark of the Archtypes: The Politics of Projection, you can group-experience a highly conceptual and provocative happening.
Each voter is unique.
Each voter is sacred.
With each vote cast, we know implicitly
that in order to fulfill their promises and vision, a candidate will take on certain archetypes — sometimes they will be the motivator and
other times the scholar, and on certain occasions, when we need them to be our doctor, or simply the good neighbor, they will mirror those
impressions too.
It’s the sum of these impressions that paints
the portrait of US. We trust our elected
individuals to be of the people, for the people. Here’s to the 100%.
[ acknowledgments ]
The
Chicago Design Museum for their energy and support.
Classic Color for the reproductions on canvas.
The Art Loop Alliance for their trust and curatorial vision.
note: an off-shoot of the Chicago Loop Alliance is Pop-Up Art Loop which secured the iconic Inland Steel Building lobby for this installation: Pop-Up Art Loop transforms empty storefronts in the Loop into a moveable feast of public art galleries, exhibits and studios. By creating partnerships between artists and property owners, temporary gallery space at no cost is made available to the artist in prime Loop locations. Enjoy photography, sculpture, 2D art, video and new media, installations and more.
note: [ branding obama. perfect storm? ]
note: DesignApplause takes no position on the election and will post both presidential candidates if the message is visually worthy, albeit Obama historically has had few creative challengers. Rick does make mention of the #probama …
