It’s easy to see why Studio Lawrence‘s seating and lighting collections “To Gather” and “Raising Lantern” have already won Interior Innovation Awards by the German Design Council. Both rely on the same design technique, using movable, interchangeable parts to create individualized seating and lighting plans. The customizable aspect makes them ideal for both home and office use. Instead of being hemmed in by readymade product specs, you can configure each sofa or lamp combo to suit your needs.
Of course, it does require a love of big, bold shapes, but if you’re into that you’ll probably have a lot of fun coming up with combinations. What’s so ingenious about this design is that it’s both playful and practical, and how often do those two words go together? I love the grey and yellow combination, the black and grey, the red and orange, the orange and pink. I can see those looking bright and cheery in a modern office. Still, when it comes to home interiors I tend more towards muted tones with just a few splashes of color (I have mostly natural, wooden furniture in my apartment set off by a big pink wall), so I’m drawn towards the natural tones and paper-like qualities of “Raising Lattern.” Again, this collection is made of interchangeable parts, so you can create one tall stack or a simple two-piece light. I think they look even better in a cluster.
