New York Design Week is just around the corner, and the number of exhibitions, conferences, talks, workshops and openings is downright daunting. Luckily, the clever folks at Core77 have put together a comprehensive guide that’s searchable by the type of event, the date and the neighborhood. Putting together this godsend of a database was no small feat, so be sure to show them some love at their “Sweet 16 Anniversary” celebration at the Phaidon Store next Monday night.
The first step to charting your course during design week is to plan ahead, especially since some events require an RSVP – like the cocktail party for Marcel Wanders’ line of tableware for Alessi or the opening reception for Karim Rashid’s exhibit “Karim Loves NY.” Of course design week isn’t just a whirlwind of parties, though that’s certainly a perk. Check out the more serious goings-on at the Center for Architecture. Their talk “Jugaad Urbanism: Resourceful Strategies for Indian Cities” explores how the energy of citizens is translated by architects, urban planners and the government into efficient and inventive solutions for sustainable growth in urban areas like Delhi and Mumbai. The Center for Architecture is also hosting their annual AIANY Design Awards, honoring exemplary work in four categories: architecture, interior, urban design and un-built work – with some top name recipients in the mix. The list of must-see events goes on – and on and on. [ Better check it out for yourself. ]
