leading specialist in contemporary jewelry, miranda rhys williams, will discuss the increasing role of design in contemporary jewelry through works in both precious and non-precious materials, which range from beautiful reinterpretations of the traditional, to exquisite experimental pieces.
among others, the work of the following art jewelers will be examined: mariko sumioka who draws inspiration from traditional japanese architecture; alice cicolini who combines enamel traditions of persia and patterns of the silk route; catherine martin who adopts the japanese textile art of kumihimo in platinum and gold; and poppy dandiya who gives a modern twist to bactrian aesthetics of north east india.
