Benjamin Hubert’s new environmentally-conscious chair “Pod” is made from sustainably sourced wood and felt made from recycled plastic bottles. The molded felt shell is actually the largest form ever produced with pressed PET felt technology, and its shape and texture create a private, nearly sound-proof space. It almost looks like a contemporary club chair, but with its high, rounded back, arm rests and padding, “Pod” is more of a place than just a chair. Like an spaceship’s escape pod, it provides a soft, quiet, semi-private getaway.
De vorm, who’s producing the chair, calls it “a little room-in-a-room” that allows “the user to work comfortably whilst feeling relaxed and separated from the hustle and bustle of daily life.” There’s just something about the cozy, tactile qualities of felt that make it such a perfect choice for chairs you can’t help but curl up in. While it may be soft to the touch it’s still solid enough to maintain its form, but just how is this achieved? Watch the production video filmed at Nordifa in Sweden.
