the industrial designers society of america (IDSA) is accepting entries to its 2011 international design excellence awards™ (IDEA) program from designers, students and companies worldwide.
For over 30 years, IDEA has recognized design excellence in products, sustainability, interaction design, packaging, strategy, research and concepts. The awards program honors new products that have been in distribution between Feb. 2009 and Feb. 2011. The Henry Ford will house the winners in its permanent collection. deadline: Jan 28, 2011.

Phillips de Pury’s sale of Design Masters, from Ruhlmann to Newson, takes place on Dec. 15 but several days of open houses have brought prospective buyers to the company’s new quarters at Park Avenue and 50th Street.

Oogst 1000 wonderland.
oogst 1000 wonderland
is a self-sufficient farm, restaurant, hotel and amusement park for 1,000 people per day.
All food is produced in a self sustainable manner within the structure of Oogst. Frank Tjepkema: ‘Oogst 1000 combines extreme fun with extreme usefulness, and as such, is the first example of ecotainment pushed to the limits.’ See Oogst 1000 come to life here, in a one minute animation.
Oogst by Tjep. will be part of Hyperlinks, an exhibition grouping a diversity of projects exploring, and more importantly, fading out the border between the fields of architecture and design. December 11 thru July 20, 2011. The Art Institute of Chicago.

An exhibition on African art at the Museum of Art and Design in Manhattan has several auto-themed works on display, including a BMW Art Car, and a toy VW Beetle on loan from the author.

this year the design / miami space is adjacent to the art basel miami convention center.
there are 15 galleries who voiced appreciation being this close to the art show where the previous venue was the miami design district. the galleries include: barry friedman/new york, carpenters workshop gallery/london, cristina grajales gallery/new york, d&b lab/brussels, demisch danant/new york, galeri kreo/paris, gallery seomi/seoul, johnson trading company/new york, jousse entreprise/paris, ornamentum/houston, perimeter art & design/paris, r 20th century/new york, sebastian + barquet/new york, todd merrill/new york.
the 40,000 sq. ft structure is designed by moorhead & moorhead. the interior space uses a “scatter” pattern to engage the visitor and designed by architectural firm aranda/lasch. the pavilion includes: food bar, vip section, store, and a theatre for the many lectures. this show marks the sixth anniversary.
