in celebration of the 16th annual international passive house open days on saturday, 9 november, architect wayne turett of the turett collaborative will open up his iconic passive house (and personal home) in greenport, ny from 11am – 4:30pm to share insights about passive house living, designing and building.

recognized as one of the ‘best paths to net zero,” passive house (or passive haus) refers to a set of standards for energy efficiency that certifies a building’s ability to maintain comfortable temperatures year-round, requiring minimal energy (and expenditure) for heating or air-conditioning. a typical passive house thus consumes about 90 percent less heating energy than existing buildings and 75 percent less energy than average new construction.

after experiencing the benefits of living in the stunning all-electric passive house for a year, the architect is well-versed to passionately express just how well energy-efficient technologies can work. the highly-efficient dream home, which fuses a modern aesthetic with a barn exterior, was a three-year labor of love from conception to completion; a mission to live true to his design ethos and commitment to the environment.
