Volkswagen has provided the first specific design concept for an autonomous car. It allows for traditional driving or passenger mode and is called James 2025. Shown at CeBit, the European electronic convention in Hannover, the system changes at the touch of a button. Steering wheel and instruments swing away and the driver’s seat shifts to passenger mode.
At first glance I thought these were toys. Well, for some they are toys – adult gifts to keep tabs on each other. Originally designed for parents, bleepbleeps are also for seniors and special needs. Very smart and cute. Here’s what bleepbleeps say about Sammy Screamer: ‘This is Sammy Screamer, a movement sensor that connects to the bleepbleeps app. Place Sammy on an item that you want to monitor – could be a door, a bag or a stroller. Get a notification on your phone if the item moves – i.e. the door opens, the bag gets tampered with or the stroller gets moved. Use the bleepbleeps app to set Sammy’s sensitivity and choose how loud you want him to scream.’

bleepbleeps reached their goal for sammy screamer on [ kickstarter ] and the family has grown thanks to stan, olivia and mr. bates.

The dash: wireless smart headphones. They’re Bluetooth in-ear headphones that also offer up performance tracking via in-built health and body sensors. With passive noise cancellation, pass-through audio transparency when you need it, and an ear bone transduction microphone, these really do seem like gadgets that take existing gadget real estate (everyone uses headphones at some point) and make the most out of it. The smartphone industry has provided all the now-inexpensive tech that is needed to go to the next level. What’s needed now is an adaptation of function and aesthetics. Creating smart gadgets that are wearable (good looking) will change real-time life as we know it and it’s here now.

The Samsung Galaxy Gear is a watch. You can customize the way it looks and how it tells you the time with several face options and the choice of ten pre-loaded clock types. So far so good. But what makes it smart? It notifies users of incoming messages, such as calls, texts, emails and alerts, delivers a preview of those messages and creates the opportunity for users to accept or discreetly ignore those messages.
In the past, some have seen Samsung’s design as plasticky and cheap, the Samsung Galaxy Gear is not. With an aluminum face and a rubber wrist-strap, it feels much more premium than the Pebble. It’s not small, with a 1.63-inch screen, 11.1mm thickness and a width of 36.8mm, some would call it chunky, but we don’t mind that in a watch.

Recon Instruments, behind the world’s first consumer Heads-up Displays (HUD) for sports, has introduced the fourth generation of their heads up display for skiers and snowboarders, the Recon Snow2. As with previous versions of Recon’s snow HUD, Snow2 has been designed to work with goggles from the world’s leading manufacturers including Oakley, Smith, Scott, Uvex, Alpina, Briko and Zeal. The Snow2 is also available for sale as a stand-alone unit. Mercedes has produced whole new vehicle for the video game Gran Turismo 6 –but they also built it in the real world. The Gran Turismo concept is said to illustrate “sensuous purity” the emerging Mercedes design language, according to design chief Gordon Wagener. It was shown in gleaming steel at the 2013 Los Angeles auto show.
Gaga lands at the Brooklyn Navy Yard in Volantis, a flying dress at a press conference for her artRave party on Sunday 10 November 2013.
“Volantis is essentially a vehicle,” the 27-year-old entertainer told the crowd. “I wanted to make today about something even more important to me. And what that something is the youth of the world.”
Volantis was conceived by Studio XO in Gaga’s TechHaus. It has six booms in a hex formation and is powered by 50 volts of batteries. The dress also has a carbon fiber molded mimic of a fitted couture dress. It’s creative.

A new audio brand has arrived emphasizing cool, efficient design. NanoHiFi continues the tradition of Braun and Tivoli with crisp boxy shapes. Its special appeal is easy compatibility with sound sources via USB and Bluetooth—and striking quality.
