I learned of Hail Merry snacks from a friend who attended Burning Man 2011. From the [ Hail Merry blog ]…
Burning man, an event for free spirits from around the globe, is firmly built on the founders’ Ten Principles. One of the most fundamental and enjoyed of these principles is gifting.
And the gift of choice amongst the attending vegans and gluten-free who my friend hung with was the Hail Merry snack bar. So it was a pleasant surprise to be alerted that the Michael Graves Design Group has created a display for the snack bar for the Southern California Whole Food Markets.
MGDG sought a “dynamic omni-directional display which is not typically seen in this industry. This was accomplished by showcasing the products on a series of cascading pedestals, accessible and visible to all who encounter them. The playfulness of the presentation mirrors the Hail Merry Queen icon itself, which was designed to resemble a chess piece in the vein of the wooden doll series created by architect, Alexander Girard.
The displays are fabricated by hand, with each tube receiving two recessed round shelves secured in place. Scepters are connected together by Velcro and a small-notched base cleat. The banners on tubes were digitally printed and can be updated after promotional periods by placing labels over prior signage. People of all heights can access the display from 360 degrees.
“The food industry is going through massive change as more and more people realize the health crisis our country faces. It is my hope that injecting new energy into our point of sale displays will inspire the customer to reflect on their own state of well being,” says Susan O’Brien, Founder, Hail Merry. “Being able to blend Hail Merry’s bold and playful graphics with Mr. Graves design genius has been the pinnacle of our entire brand design experience thus far.”
